In the heart of Athens, on Agia Irini Square, 1890 is the restaurant of the Athens 1890 hotel, set inside a protected nineteenth-century neoclassical mansion that once mixed commerce with private residence. The restoration keeps the building's drama, patterned mosaic floors, a double-height room and a full-height, ladder-served wall of bottles, then softens it with warm light, lush greenery and intimate banquettes. Across the white-clothed tables, cane-backed SECCO chairs on slender OMICRON bases hold the room's relaxed, unpretentious elegance, the kind of place built for a long evening of Greek flavours through French technique.
